«We want our lake back»
Como and the “Postcard-revolution”

One of the most beautiful views in the world blocked by broken cement and rusty machinery. “La Provincia” and its readers now urge Prime Minister Matteo Renzi to act. How? Three postcards, distributed (for free) with the paper, are signed by the citizens. Then, “La Provincia” will deliver them to the Government House in Rome - And you too can help! Please use the hashtag #rivogliamoilnostrolago

Lake Como of Italy is famous all over the world. It has provided romantic sceneries for many major movies, including an episode of Star Wars and the James Bond movie Casino Royale. The Villa d’Este in this area is also one of the most celebrated 5 star hotels. The lake is so magical that Hollywood star George Clooney has been caught in its spell: he is now the proud owner of a beautiful mansion on the lakeside.

But in Como, the main town on the lake, not everything is well. Big construction works on the lakeside had been interrupted years ago due to bureaucracy and bad politics. The beautiful view is now blocked by broken cement and rusty machinery. This is an almost fatal blow to the tourism and the image of the “enchanted lake”.

Citizens of Como want their lake back and us, representing the 125 years old local newspaper “La Provincia”, are committed to do anything possible to make that wish come true.

The only possible way is to involve the Government in Rome.

This is why our readers will find in this week’s copies of our newspaper three free postcards. We have urged them to write a message to Mr. Matteo Renzi, the Italian Prime minister. Then, we will collect the cards and send them to the Government House in Rome. The first postcard was distributed yesterday, May 17th, and the response of the readers so far has been enormous.

The second one will be in the newstands tomorrow, May 19th.

Please help us to save Lake Como: any mention of this plea will be welcome and useful. This is our hashtag: #rivogliamoilnostrolago (we want our lake back)
